Today is the third Sunday in June. This is when Americans celebrate Father’s Day (but I understand some other countries do this on St. Joseph’s Day.)
Our culture likes to tear fathers down. Let’s be countercultural and lift them up! You may have a wonderful father; if so, this will be easy for you. If you’re nearby, pay him a visit and do something he likes to do! If you live far away, give him a call!
Even if you don’t have a great relationship with your dad, it’s never too late to fix it while you’re both still alive. Pray for the wisdom and the opportunity to do something about it; it is right and proper to have love and respect between father and child, and God smiles on that.
Even failing all these things, whether your earthly father isn’t part of your life or if he’s no longer with us, you still have a Father in heaven. We can all be comforted by that fact today.
Happy Father’s Day!
Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.
